Canon PowerShot 350 Digital Camera
Canon is expanding its range of digital cameras with the introduction of the pocket sized PowerShot 350.
The camera has the necessary quality and functions required for web page designers and is ideal for use as a 'visual notebook' for users such as fashion designers, surveyors, estate agents, builders and engineers.
The PowerShot 350 is truly compact and lightweight. Measuring just 90mm(H) x 95mm(W) x 50mm (D), its footprint is just slightly larger than a PC disc, and with a weight of only 11 ounces, it can easily be transported in a small bag or pocket.
Main features of the camera include an optical resolution of 640 x 480 pixels, LCD screen for easy viewing, built-in flash, fixed focus capability and red-eye reduction facility.
The colour LCD screen serves as a viewfinder, allowing users to preview shots in full colour and, after capturing images, to display them with single or multi-image playback. The LCD features adjustable brightness control and viewing angle and also shows date/time stamp and battery indicator.
The PowerShot 350 (with 2MB CompactFlash) supports three levels of JPEG image compression - 47 images in economy mode, 24 in normal mode and 11 in fine mode. Its 3cm macro-focusing facility allows the user to take high quality pictures even close-up.
The camera can be powered by three standard AA batteries - ensuring easy access to a suitable power supply - or by using the rechargeable NiCd batteries supplied.
Images can be stored in the camera or transferred, using the cable supplied, to a PC or Mac. With Windows 95 they can be manipulated using the PhotoImpact software which is included together with Canon's
Time Tunnel image browser and Stitch (joins two photographic images together to form one panoramic view). For Mac users an Adobe Photoshop Plug-in module is provided.
The images can be output directly to a computer monitor with one, four or 16 images displayed at one time, on either the LCD display or PC screen. Printing is simple - just load the images onto a PC and output direct to a printer, or include them in word processor, presentation or DTP files For optimum quality, Canon recommends a PhotoRealism printer such as Canon's BJC-4200 or BJC-240.
A 2MB removable CompactFlash memory card, capable of storing up to 47 images, is supplied with the camera. This can be expanded up to 4MB (94 images) or 15 MB (352 images).
Fully interchangeable and easily portable, the CompactFlash memory cards can be read directly into a computer using a PC Card Reader - leaving the camera free for continued use.
