The Rho 312R is the most productive 3.2 m roll to roll printer in its class. It also offers a new quality standard for industrial backlit or “fine art printing”. The Rho 312R features Durst’s Quadro Array 12M printheads with Variodrop technology and the12 picolitre drop size enables excellent image quality with up to 900 dpi, whilst the Variodrop technology is responsible for the printer’s high productivity. It is capable of printing up to 240 sqm/hour in high speed mode and up to 122 sqm/h in POP mode. Productivity is further enhanced by the option of being able to print two 1.6 m rolls of media at the same time with individual print queues.

With print system of over 24,000 nozzles, there is no compromise between productivity and speed, whilst the high pigmentation reduces ink consumption and therefore provides a low cost per m² and a very competitive ROI. The Variodrop technology enhances the greyscale technology by increasing productivity and improved image quality, also eliminating the inherent problems that can occur with greyscale printing.

Other features include 6 colour printing and different ink options, unattended printing with large rolls, options of reverse side printing and integrated border cutting. Durst roll ink is environmentally friendly.
The inks are completely VOC free and accredited with the stringent Nordic Swan environmental certification.

For digital or offset printers who wish to enter new large format markets or enhance their existing portfolio, the Rho 312R is the most flexible and productive printer available. It will provide the ideal solution for anything from high quality backlits and “fine art” prints to POP, banners, and even wallpaper and façade decoration, profitably.

The Rho P10 200/250 HS feature Durst’s Quadro Array 10M printheads with double the number nozzles in comparison to the Rho P10 200/250. They also have LED Pin curing in combination with conventional UV drying. The Pin curing helps to make the faster speed possible by sealing the drops of inks, keeping the quality perfect, whilst the UV curing finalises the drying process.

The Rho P10 Series set a new quality standard for industrial level inkjet printing when it was launched two years ago. That same quality, with a resolution of up to 1000 dpi, is now available from a printer that is capable of printing up to 400 sqm.

As with all the latest Durst Inkjet printers, the new Rho P10 HS Series are the most productive printers in their class. A true hybrid, they will print on both rigid and roll media equally fast and the media change from one to the other is both quick and simple. They also provide unrivalled versatility thanks to their ability to print on the widest range of media including foam board, metal, acrylics and PVC and roll media such as clear film and other backlit material, textiles and vinyls.

The stunning “fine art” print quality of both the existing and new P10 printers provides a level of quality that will allow for close up viewing of a wide range of advertising and corporate promotional material. The very fine tones and the option of additional light colours (light cyan and light magenta) offer perfect colour reproduction. Typically, they are ideal for indoor and outdoor signage, POP material, small to medium sized packaging and backlit luxury goods.

The new Rho P10 HS can also boast Durst’s Variodrop technology. Not only does this help with the increased productivity but also provides improved image quality, particularly at the highest production speeds.
Solid areas of colour are smoother whilst offering bright vibrant colours.

Rollem PhotoSlit Photobook Finishing System

The lastest innovation from UK manufacturer Rollem is PhotoSlit, a photobook finishing system that want to combines high cut quality and productivity with minimum operator skills and maintenance along with the ability to change settings easily between jobs.

Initially, PhotoSlit is being aimed at fast turnaround printers, with digital web-to-print workflows for jobs up to SRA3. However, Rollem says it could manufacture PhotoSlit in other sizes if required, including up to B1.

Rollem PhotoSlit photobook system

Rollem's new PhotoSlit photobook system can handle 8,000 SRA3 sph with extremely high accuracy.

“Our comprehensive in-house design and engineering facilities allow us to create finishing equipment that meets a very specific need,” says managing director Stuart Murphy. “PhotoSlit is a good example of how we can respond quickly to create a bespoke finishing solution. Very often we design and build equipment in situations where other manufacturers will not even consider trying to find an answer. Such systems can give quite a competitive edge to a company in the marketplace and, unfortunately, this generally means we are not allowed to publicise the installation - a bit frustrating when you’ve just achieved a major breakthrough in post-press technology!”

The two-dimensional bleed cutting facility incorporated with PhotoSlit is said to provide the most accurate and narrow bleed cutting in the world. With a gutter size as small as 1.6 mm, PhotoSlit can significantly reduce waste and produce more pages per printed sheet than other photobook systems on the market. The long-life slitting blades should last between three and six months in a normal, busy production environment.

PhotoSlit can handle up to 8,000 SRA3 sheets an hour. The page size range is from A6 to A3 and Rollem says it could make a system capable of handling sheets down to 75 x 30 mm. Each printed sheet is carefully handled individually, with identical processing every time leading to extremely precise registration.

If there is a problem with print image shift within the job, Rollem’s AutoLay system enables the operator to compensate for this. Other features incorporated within the new Rollem equipment include batch counting and remote control. PhotoSlit is independently verified to comply with CE and the latest European machinery directives.

Rollem PhotoSlit shingling conveyor

The shingling conveyor has the ability to create defined gaps, which allows easy batching of output

“The standard SRA3 PhotoSlit product costs £55,000 and this includes all that is needed for most photobook pages in an in-line environment,” says Stuart Murphy. “In addition to near-line and in-line PhotoSlit systems, we are able to produce off-line versions, which can be used with our deep pile feeder or shallow pile TurboFeeder, both reliable and robust systems. As with so much of what we create at our Sheffield factory, the end product is generally a solution to a customer’s particular post press need.”

Agfa :M-Press Leopard concentrates on quality ink-jet and speed

The new Agfa Graphics :M-Press Leopard incorporates the same ink-jet shuttle technology as the :M-Press Tiger, enabling users to output high quality and speed at sizes of up to 1.6 x 2,6 m. The Agfa Graphics' UPH 2 (Universal Print Head) greyscale variable droplet technology guarantees precision dot placement for the reproduction of the finest graduations and vivid solid colours. Instant curing ensures jobs are ready for finishing as soon as they have been printed.

Agfa Graphics :M-Press Leopard utilises a simplified feed system, with manual loading based on the ergonomic concept and proven technology of Thieme's 55 vacuum zoned universal print table. This ensures accurate and fast positioning of the substrate onto the bed, with precise registration pins on both the left and the right side of the bed to make single and double-sided printing easy. Heavy substrates up to 20 kg/m2 can be pushed towards registration pins in the back side of the table. The variable vacuum zones hold the thinnest and most flexible papers or materials completely flat so that they can easily be printed alongside rigid substrates.

The :M-Press Leopard is designed for print service providers who look for quality and speed and who require fast change-over between jobs. The prints are suited for all interior and exterior applications where colour gamut and accurate durability are essential. The machine can work with a broad range of materials in thicknesses of up to 5 cm, and output onto multiple sheets in the same job.

Agfa Graphics' :M-Press Leopard will be launched officially this week at Fespa Digital 2011. The new production printer joins the company's expanding portfolio of wide-format solutions which ranges from the entry-level and mid-range UV-curable :Anapurna series, through the :Jeti family of industrial units to the high-end :M-Press Tiger.

Agfa Graphics is at Fespa Digital 2011 (May 24 - 27, 2011) in the city of Hamburg, Germany.
