Jonathan Stephenson/Rocket presents new work by the London-based artist CEDRIC CHRITIE (b. 1962, UK).
Cedric Christie adresss the relation ships of form, colour and material in a serie of wall-mounted sculptures. Assembled from scaffolding pipes, spray-painted solid hues and installed at a diagonal, these pieces transform a mundane structural support into aesthetic objects which recall te colour experimentation and dynamism of early twentieth-century artistic precedents.
CEDRIC CHRISTIE lives and works in London. His previous solo shows include Rocket, London (2001), and Commercial Gallery, London (1995 & 1997).
Last autumn Cedric Christie's work featured in "Berlin/London/minimal", the Rocket exchange show at Galerie Markus Richter, Berlin. Other recent group shows have included "It's only words at Mirror", london College of printing; "It's only a game" at Object 57, Manchester; and "Cabinet with outfit" at Gallerie Andreas Brüning, Düsseldorf. In 2001 his work was included in the two-year long exhibition "Collection 5" at Courtauld Institute, London.
