Lebanon Contemporary Art at Art Dubai 2013

Six Lebanese galleries have been selected for the Art Dubai 2013, the region famous contemporary art fair. These art galleries from Libanon want to reflect the prominence of the Lebanese contemporary art scene.

Lebanon has one of the region’s most diverse and robust art scenes, and the selection of six galleries from Lebanon is testament to  its  strength and  depth.  The  galleries are:  Agial Art Gallery, Ayyam Art Gallery, Galerie Janine Rubeiz, The Running Horse Contemporary Art Space, Sfeir-Semler Gallery and Galerie Tanit.

“Lebanon has been known as a meeting point in the region,” said Andree Sfeir-Semler from the Sfeir-Semler Gallery Beirut. “It has continued to live up to this reputation with already established  institutions such as Ashkal Alwan and the Beirut Art Center. Many Lebanese artists such as Walid RaadAkram Zaatari, and  Marwan Rechmaoui are challenging different social, political, and aesthetic concepts of the Arab world.”

“Being selected to be part of Art Dubai establishes our position as a leading gallery not only in Lebanon but on  a  regional level  as well.  Having participated  in  Art Dubai last year,  we understand the value and kudos that comes with participating in  this  leading  art fair, both in terms of connecting galleries and  artists  with  buyers and collectors and the exposure we received from around the region and beyond. Our work was so popular that we sold out on the first day!” said Lea Sednaoui, from The Running Horse Contemporary Art Space. Among other the gallery presents Emeric Lhuisset work.

Art Dubai has grown from strength to strength over the course of the last six years and now truly epitomises  the globalised phenomenon that is today's art world.  “Few art fairs have grown as vigorously as Art Dubai has done. With its participants, galleries and  internationally-acclaimed curators, it has quickly established itself as a leading art exhibition on the global arena. It is for this reason that the selection to participate in the 2013 edition of the fair is such an important one for us,” added Lea Sednaoui.

In addition to the strong participation of Lebanese galleries at Art Dubai, Lebanese artists are highly represented at the fair both across the galleries for example Chantal Crousel gallery from Paris presents Mona Atoum work and throughout the extensive non-commercial programme. Beirut-based Rayanne Tabet and Vartan Avakian are both winners of the Abraaj Group Art Prize 2013, and will be revealing major new works at  Art Dubai 2013.
