MARIANNA UUTINEN (b.1961) is showing her new, layered acrylic painting at Galerie Forsblom. This is the last days for this exhibition on view through November 20. The works raise the question of what is essential in the perception of the surface, the material and the modern reality. In her exhibited works Marianna Uutinen continues her practice of painting the material of her paintings and then putting them together again as paintings.

Marianna Uutinen’s layered acrylic paintings play with kitsch, allurement and charm. With their colours and plasticity they allure the viewer to participate in a perceptual game. Uutinen’s paintings tell about this moment and this time, being here and now, in today’s world. In her new works the artist’s palette moves between bright primary colours, girlish aniline, glamorous gold, and mysterious black.

Marianna Uutinen’s painting process has become more intuitive and is getting closer to action painting. What is unusual, is her way of building her works from creased strips of acrylic paintings. The three-dimensional paintings break into the surrounding space like sculptures. They point to the physicality of the painting where the material and the metaphor mix. From abstract projections concrete perceptions of the modern reality are created. Marianna Uutinen’s works are also paintings of paintings that are aware of the act of painting.

MARIANNA UUTINEN is one of the leading names in contemporary Finnish art. She is originally from Pieksämäki, but lives and works nowadays in Berlin and Helsinki. Marianna Uutinen has had well-received solo exhibitions in Finland and she has participated in a number of international group exhibitions in Europe and the USA. She exhibited in The Venice Biennale in 1997.

This is also the last days to see two other exhitions at Galerie Forsblom. Alessandro Twombly is showing its Sculpture and Paintings on Paper (Through November 20, 2011). Another exhibition at Galerie Forsblom, also endind soon, is  "Staining", a great exhibition of works by Japanese artist Hidemasa Fujii.

L'exposition présente des oeuvres de ces 16 artistes qui font parties des plus reconnus en Finlande pour leurs oeuvres lithographiques. Présenter la lithographie contemporaine en Finlande sous cette forme d'une exposition collective s'imposait dans la mesure où il s'agit de souligner l'originalité de la création finlandaise, mais aussi sa diversité.

L'association Pro Litografia qui a organisé cette exposition avec l'Ateneum entend souligner à travers elle, les possibilités artistiques qu'offre la lithographie ; en quoi cette technique offre à l'artiste un champ de possibilité très large dans l'expression de sa créativité et de l'originalité de son travail d'artiste. Toulouse-Lautrec, Chagall, Miro, Matisse, pour n'en citer que quelques uns parmi les artistes les plus marquant de l'art moderne , ont largement utiliser la lithographie. A travers des oeuvres qui ont toutes été réalisées en appliquant la technique traditionnelle de la lithographie, où le graphisme est d'abord gravé dans la pierre, cette exposition montre que la lithographie demeure une des formes majeures d'expression de l'art contemporain.

La technique de la lithographie exige une bonne maîtrise. Elle est exigente et nécessite un savoir faire qui transparaît aux travers des oeuvres présentées dans cette exposition. Mais il est toujours possible, pour la phase d'impression de la gravure, de la réaliser en collaboration avec l’imprimeur.

185 photographies en noir et blanc prises par Henri Cartier-Bresson sur plus d’un demi-siècle, des années 1920 à 1998, sont exposées à Helsinki. Cette exposition est un des événements de photo.doc, partie photographique des manifestations culturelles organisées dans le cadre d’Helsinki 2000, ensemble d’événements culturels organisés par la ville pour fêter le nouveau millénaire. Cette exposition  avait été présentée auparavant à la Maison Européenne de la photographie à Paris.
