Santa Barbara-based Keith Puccinelli uses an irreverent quick wit, modest materials, and tableaux to broach the confict between the preciousness of life and man’s disregard for life during times of war, to create a kind of carnival of sorrow. The strong juxtaposition of materials and a passion for wordplay often brings a sense of humor to glaze or emphasize the serious or tragic presented in the work.
A resident of Ventura, Keith Puccinelli received his B.F.A. from San José State University, San José, CA. In 1983, he established Puccinelli Designs, ushering in a 20-year period of national and international recognition for his commercial work. Concurrently, Puccinelli produced an impressive body of artwork, and took part in numerous exhibitions in Southern California including the Sonotube® Forms: Contemporary Art and Transport exhibition at the Santa Barbara Contemporary Arts Forum, Santa Barbara, CA. Most recently, his work was featured in a solo exhibition, curated by Meg Linton, entitled Keith Puccinelli: The Wondercommon at the Ben Maltz Gallery, Otis College of Art and Design, Los Angeles, CA.
