MUTEC 2010 Leipzig – Museums and the digital challenge
MUTEC 2010 - LEIPZIG - GERMANY
International Trade Fair for Museum and Exhibition Technology
18 - 20 November 2010
Germany is a country of museums: More than 8000 galleries and museums and constantly more than 100 million visitors per year during the last years have been an impressive proof.
However, the financial crisis and the state’s and the municipality’s need to economise do not leave this culturally and socially important sector unaffected and confront museums with the problem to offer exciting exhibitions in a modern and attractive area despite their short budgets.
At the MUTEC, 65 exhibitors show which investments museums can make to meet these requirements. The MUTEC 2010 will be in Leipzig from tomorrow, 18 November, to 20 November. Its central topics are Museum Architecture, Fittings and Scenography, Multimedia, Visitor Service, Data Management, Archiving and many more.
MUTEC 2010: MUSEUMS AND THE DIGITAL CHALLENGE
The show also focuses on the digital challenge. Numerous meetings and conventions proved: The topic is highly explosive and affects not only conventional industries but also politics, the media and the cultural sector.
The Digital Century makes museums face new challenges but it also offers new chances. Mulitmedia-based techniques increase the attractiveness of a visit to a museum and can quickly and smoothly provide background information. Immersive installations and 3D-systems can create a unique experience for the visitor. The new techniques impart knowledge by interactive information portals, make use of the possibility to attract and retain visitors through social networks such as facebook or twitter and build up virtual worlds and augmented realities for the generation Web 2.0 and the digital natives – the visitors to the museum of the future.
How can museums prepare for the digital society? Which possibilities are there, and which actions and initiatives are required not only to survive the competition of the internet, but to make use of own resources and treasures? Which investments offer a sustainable solution? How do other institutions deal with these challenges and how can museums benefit from the possibilities of mobile marketing? Which part can museums play in this “new” world? The ancillary program of the MUTEC with the topic Museums and Digital Life will deal with these questions and show possible trends.
MUTEC 2010 is organized by Albrecht gmbh parallel to DENKMAL – European Trade Fair for Conservation, Restoration and Old Building Renovation.
