Setting a new benchmark for full-frame cameras, the EOS 5DS and EOS 5DS R combine fast, instinctive DSLR handling with the newly-developed 50.6 MP CMOS sensor, providing the flexibility to shoot a wide range of scenes and subjects, making it ideal for large format mediums, such as advertising billboards and magazine covers, where every pixel matters. The sensor’s advanced architecture provides ISO 100-6400 sensitivity, expandable to 50-12800, ensuring high quality images with low noise, accurate colours and wide dynamic range. For added flexibility, the cameras’ resolution enables three new in-camera crop shooting modes – 1.3x, 1.6x and 1:1. Built to withstand the most demanding shoots, the EOS 5DS and EOS 5DS R’s dual DIGIC 6 processors provide the rapid performance and responsiveness required to deliver first-class images with exceptional colour reproduction. Both processors are designed to comfortably manage huge levels of image data from the 50.6 MP sensor, whilst simultaneously reducing image noise and providing the freedom to shoot at five frames per second. 

Created to ensure every detail of your exquisite landscape or high-fashion studio shoot is in focus, the EOS 5DS and EOS 5DS R feature an advanced 61-point AF system, with 41 cross-type points, delivering incredible levels of image sharpness and accuracy across the frame. Both cameras comfortably maintain focus with moving subjects, using EOS Intelligent Tracking and Recognition AF (iTR) to track both faces and colour. To reduce image blur, Canon’s Mirror Vibration Control System uses cams to drive the cameras’ mirror up and down in a highly controlled fashion, avoiding all sudden stops and softening the shutter-release sound. 

Additionally, the EOS 5DS and EOS 5DS R’s 150k pixel RGB+IR metering sensor with Flicker Detection ensures images can be captured with consistent and accurate exposures under varying lighting scenarios, including florescent.

Putting unrivalled image quality at your fingertips, the EOS 5DS and EOS 5DS R include a number of customisable modes and settings to ensure stunning results every time. The EOS 500D, which incorporates a Live View recording function and high-resolution 3.0-inch LCD monitor, realizes high-quality images and low noise even in dark environments. The jury speculated that the 500D's high-quality High Definition video mode may be enough to inspire some users to pursue amateur film-making as a hobby. The European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA), composed of 50 special interests magazines from 19 countries focusing on photography, A/V products, home theaters, and mobile devices, has recognized two other Canon products with prestigious "Best Product" awards: the Canon EOS 5D Mark II as European Advanced Camera 2009-2010 and the Canon Pixma Pro9000 Mark II as European Photo Printer 2009-2010. The EISA Photo Panel described the EOS 5D Mark II as a "worthy successor of the EOS 5D," praising Canon's achievement in increasing the pixel count of the model's 35mm CMOS sensor to 21.1 megapixels while delivering lower noise levels than its predecessor. The jury also lauded the model's dust and moisture protection, Live View shooting, sensor cleaning, and full High Definition recording capabilities. The European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA), composed of 50 special interests magazines from 19 countries focusing on photography, A/V products, home theaters, and mobile devices, has recognized two other Canon products with prestigious "Best Product" awards: the Canon EOS 500D (EOS Rebel T1i in other regions) as European SLR Camera 2009-2010; and the Canon Pixma Pro9000 Mark II as European Photo Printer 2009-2010. EISA awards are presented to products released in Europe within the past 12 months and deemed representative of their product category by a judging panel composed of editors of EISA-affiliated magazines specializing in that respective product division. In addition to the European Advanced Camera Award, the EOS 5D Mark II has also been declared Best Digital SLR Expert Camera 2009 by the European Technical Image Press Association and Grand Prix Camera of the Year at the Camera Grand Prix 2009 in Japan, receiving a total of three authoritative awards in the camera industry.

The Canon EOS 5D Mark II has won a TIPA Award " Best DSLR Expert in 2009 "
Canon’s full frame, 21.1 megapixel EOS 5D Mark II is the first EOS with full High Definition video capability that captures amazing quality footage. TIPA’s panel of judges summarised the camera as: “Fast, reliable and discreet, this ‘expert’ D-SLR challenges in quality the best pro models.” Although compact and lightweight, the EOS 5D Mark II’s newly designed and improved Canon full frame CMOS sensor, along with the DIGIC 4 processor, delivers image quality at 3.9 frames per second.

Pentax White K2000 Limited Edition

PENTAX has announced a limited edition, white PENTAX K2000 DSLR system with a double zoom kit.
This new model replicates the original K2000 design that launched in September 2008 for consumers who are ready to make the transition from a point-and-shoot digital camera to digital SLR photography. The new camera body and both lenses* feature a brilliant white color with black trim.
The white PENTAX K2000 is an entry-level system consisting of the new PENTAX K2000 body, a white smc PENTAX DA L 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 AL lens, and a white smc PENTAX DA L 50-200mm F4-5.6 AL lens. Bundled as a complete kit for the convenience of the customer, the PENTAX K2000 system offers uncomplicated operation for new digital SLR users and family photographers seeking high-quality digital SLR photography for the first time. Combining PENTAX-developed, easy-to-use Auto Picture modes as well as powerful learning functions all housed in one of the smallest, lightest camera bodies in its class, the PENTAX K2000 system is ideal for digital SLR beginners. Additional features on the newest digital K2000 SLR body include a 10.2 megapixel CCD, a 2.7 inch, 230,000 dot high resolution, wide-view LCD panel, and an ultra compact design that facilitates one handed operation. Pentax K20D Digital SLR

Improving on the technology of the award winning K10D, the flagship Pentax K20D is the highest resolution camera in the advanced photo enthusiast category and allows more experienced photographers, who demand complete control, to fully customize the camera.
Newly Developed CMOS Image Sensor
The Pentax K20D features a newly developed CMOS (complementary metal oxide semiconductor) image sensor measuring 23.4 mm x 15.6 mm. In designing the K20D, Pentax made the significant transition to a higher resolution 14.6 megapixel sensor, rivaling the detail previously only found in images captured with 35mm film. This considerable gain offers 50 percent more resolution than 10 megapixel sensors, and 20 percent more resolution than 12 megapixel sensors. Pentax Imaging (a leading innovator in the imaging business) collaborated with Samsung Electronics (a market leader in developing and producing semiconductors) in the development of the 14.6 megapixel CMOS Sensor found in the Pentax K20D Digital SLR. The larger photo diode in the sensor gathers more light in a shorter time and therefore can respond more sensitively. As a result, the K20D is able to achieve higher sensitivity levels (up to 6400 in the expanded ISO mode). Also, there is a more direct light path to the pixels. Coupled with a high-performance imaging engine incorporating Pentax-original image-processing technologies programmed to yield natural, true-to-life images, the new model assures fine-detailed, rich-gradation images.
Pentax Original Shake Reduction Mechanism
The K20D is equipped with the Pentax-developed Shake Reduction mechanism, which reduces camera shake for sharp, blur-free images even under demanding shooting conditions, such as shooting with a telephoto lens, shooting in low light conditions or at night without supplementary flash illumination, or using extended exposures for sunset scenes. This innovative mechanism offers outstanding compensation equivalent to approximately 2.5 to 4 shutter-speed steps. In addition, the lighter image sensor unit and refined data-control algorithm offer improved image stabilization over previous models. Pentax Shake Reduction is compatible with existing Pentax interchangeable lenses. Lenses compatible with this mechanism are: Pentax K-, KA-, KAF- and KAF2-mount lenses, screw-mount lenses (with an adapter); and 645- and 67-system lenses (with an adapter). Some functions may not be applicable with certain lenses.
Large 2.7 Inch Wide-view LCD Monitor
The K20D features a large 2.7 inch color LCD monitor with approximately 230,000 dots resolution (One dot equals 3 pixels). The wide-view design allows the photographer to view the monitor image from approximately 160 degrees both vertically and horizontally. Since it assures effortless image viewing from a diagonal position, it facilitates low- and high-angle shooting using the Live View function.
New Live View Function
The K20D features a Live View function that allows users to view an image on the LCD monitor during shooting. This feature is beneficial when the photographer moves his or her eye from the viewfinder in specialized applications, such as low and high-angle shooting, or when perfecting composition. The function also allows users to confirm the Shake-Reduction effect on the monitor while shooting.
High-performance, High-speed PRIME Imaging Engine
The K20D incorporates the Pentax-original PRIME (Pentax Real IMage Engine). Designed exclusively for Pentax digital SLR cameras, the engine ensures well-balanced, true-to-life images with faithful color reproduction by efficiently controlling digital signals transmitted by the CMOS image sensor. It also allows complete control over other photographic factors including white balance and the new Custom Image functions. This imaging engine also features a Double Data Rate 2 (DDR2) memory to assure speedy image processing and high-speed data transfer.
Custom Image Function
The K20D is equipped with a new Custom Image function that lets the user select one of the six modes and adjust an image'S processing to their preference by automatically adjusting tone, saturation, contrast, and sharpness. These modes include Natural, Bright, Portrait, Landscape, Vibrant, and B&W image modes. The photographer can make further fine-tuned adjustments to each setting. The effect on each of the primary colors is shown in a radar-type display on the LCD panel. The user can easily see the effect of their adjustments by using the digital preview option.
Expanded Dynamic Range Function
The K20D adds a dynamic-range expansion function, which allows the user to expand the dynamic range (or range of gradation reproduction) while retaining the proper contrast to avoid white-washed areas. With an approximately 1EV expansion effect, it assures beautiful, rich-gradation images.
Dust-proof, Water-resistant Construction
The K20D boasts an extremely reliable weather-resistant and dust-proof construction with special seals applied to 72 different parts of the camera body, including the shutter release button and all the switches, levers, dials. This dependable body makes it possible to use the K20D in the rain or dusty locations without worries.
Comprehensive Dust Removal System With Prevention, Removal and Alerting Devices
The K20D features the user-friendly Dust Removal system to prevent dust from sticking to the surface of the CMOS image sensor (or low-pass filter). The Pentax-original Super Protect (SP) coating, applied to the image sensor surface through vapor deposition of a fluorine compound, effectively prevents dust from sticking to the surface. In the next step, dust that may remain on the surface will be shaken off when the system shifts the image sensor at high speed. Finally, the dust that is shaken off the image sensor falls onto an adhesive strip positioned at the bottom of the unit, eliminating any possibility of the dust returning to the image sensor surface. This upgraded Dust Reduction system also offers a new Dust Alert function, which shows the user exactly where dust may be sticking to the sensor surface.
Hyper Program Function
The K20D'S Hyper Program function allows users to instantly switch to the Shutter-Priority or Aperture-Priority AE mode from the Programmed AE mode with a simple turn of the electronic dials on the grip. To return to the Programmed AE mode, simply press the green button positioned next to the shutter release button.
Hyper Manual Function
When shooting in Manual mode, one push of the green button allows the user to instantly set the proper exposure for the subject.
Sensitivity-Priority Mode
The K20D features a unique Sensitivity-Priority (Sv) mode designed to automatically select the optimum combination of aperture and shutter speed for a user-selected sensitivity. The sensitivity can be shifted instantly in 1/2 or 1/3 steps by turning the electronic dial on the back panel.
Shutter/Aperture-Priority Mode
Taking full advantage of the unique capability of digital cameras, which permit automatic shift of sensitivity at any time, the Shutter/Aperture-Priority (TAv) mode automatically selects the most appropriate sensitivity for a user-selected shutter-speed/aperture combination. This mode allows users to experiment with a greater range of photographic expressions with greater ease.
Bright, Clear Viewfinder
Featuring a glass pentaprism, the K20D'S viewfinder offers an approximately 95 percent field of view and an approximately 0.95X magnification for easy viewing of the subject and effortless confirmation of focus and composition. Coupled with the acclaimed Natural-Bright-Matte II focusing screen, it delivers a large, bright subject image.
Continuous Shooting at Approximately Three Images Per Second
To trace the movement of an active subject or capture a sequence of the subject'S expressions, the K20D offers a continuous shooting mode that allows the photographer to capture as many as 38 images in succession (in JPEG recording format) at a maximum speed of approximately three images (frames) per second. When switched to the new high-speed advance mode, the user may capture up to approximately 115 images at the speed of approximately 21 images per second (The image size is fixed at 1.6 megapixels in the Burst Shooting mode).
High-precision 11-point wide-frame AF
The K20D'S sophisticated Safox VIII autofocus system features 11 sensor points (with nine cross-type sensors) to automatically focus on the subject with utmost precision, even when it is positioned off center. When the subject is captured in focus, the in-focus sensor point is automatically superimposed in red in the viewfinder for at-a-glance confirmation.
Powerful Rechargeable Batteries
The K20D features large capacity Lithium-ion rechargeable batteries, which can capture approximately 740 images* when fully charged. The dramatically improved battery capacity (over the previous K10D) is the result of a new energy saving design.
* Under testing condition prescribed by Pentax, when using D-LI50 lithium-ion rechargeable batteries with no flash.

  • Monochrome settings: Convert any color image in the camera into a pleasing monochromatic picture, either in black-and-white, sepia or cyanotype.
  • Filter Effects: Emulate and apply the effects of a skylight or a warming filter to any image stored on the SD card. A Color Balance menu within filter effects can also be used to make subtle shifts in color.

L’α 100 est au cœur d’un système complet destiné à développer l’attrait de la photographie reflex numérique auprès du plus grand nombre de photographes. Nikon F70 DSLR Grand Prix 2004 Award

Nikon announces that the D70 DSLR camera has been selected to receive the Camera Grand Prix 2004 award as the single most outstanding still camera.
The Camera Grand Prix is the most prestigious award presented to a camera in the Japanese photo industry. It is sponsored by the Camera Press Club, an organization founded in September 1963 and comprised of writers from thirteen of Japan's leading photography and camera publications.
This year's selection committee of 51 photographers, scholars, and magazine editors selected the D70 to receive the 21st annual Camera Grand Prix award as the single most outstanding still camera from 172 nominees released between April 2003 and March 2004. This is the 4th time Nikon has received the award, with previous wins in 1984 (the 1st Grand Prix) for the Nikon FA, in 1989 (the 6th Grand Prix) for the Nikon F4, and in 1997 (the 14th Grand Prix) for the Nikon F5.
The committee members issued the following statement of reasons for bestowing the honor of camera of the year on the D70: "The Nikon D70 delivers a superior balance of performance, price, and size. Despite being positioned as a new popular-priced digital SLR model, the camera is loaded with features that challenge even higher priced products. It overcomes the traditional weaknesses of digital cameras by realizing fast power-up and fast continuous shooting, and earns special notice for realizing response that is on par with 35mm film SLR cameras while improving practicality and comfort of use. Olympus and Kodak Agree to Implement Four Thirds System Digital SLR Camera Standard

Olympus Optical Co., Ltd. of Japan and Eastman Kodak Company of the United States recently announced that they have agreed to implement the Four Thirds System (4/3 System), a new standard for next-generation digital SLR camera systems that will ensure interchangeable lens mount compatibility. The two companies have resolved to aggressively implement this new standard in their respective product lines, and to establish the Universal Digital Interchangeable Lens System Forum, an industry forum that will promote acceptance of the Four Thirds System by other camera manufacturers. Fuji Photo Film Co., Ltd. has already agreed to participate in the new standard.

About Four Thirds System
The Four Thirds System is not based on existing standards for 35mm film SLR camera system lenses, but instead establishes a new common standard for the interchange of lenses developed exclusively to meet the optical design requirements of digital SLR cameras.

4/3-Inch (Type) Image Sensor Size
The Four Thirds System uses a 4/3-type CCD, CMOS or other image sensor, and will facilitate the development of dedicated digital camera lens systems that maximize image sensor performance and ensure outstanding image quality while also being smaller and easier to handle than 35mm film SLR camera lens systems.

Lens Mount Standardization
By establishing an open standard for camera body and lens mounts, the new system will make it possible to standardize lens mounting systems, something that has been impossible to achieve with digital SLR cameras that are based on existing 35mm film SLR lens systems. In addition, the new system defines standards for image circle size (the diameter of the area in which the subject is resolved) and back focus distance (the distance from the lens mount to the image sensor).

Development Background
Current digital SLR cameras with interchangeable lenses are basically based on conventional 35mm camera systems. As a result, they must be equipped with image sensors that are comparable in size to 35mm and APS film. However, because the imaging characteristics of these large CCDs are fundamentally different from those of film, a number of issues can prevent them from achieving their full performance potential. These include: (1) Although film is capable of responding to light striking the surface at a high angle of incidence, a high angle of incidence can prevent sufficient light from reaching sensor elements at the periphery of a CCD and result in reduced color definition, particularly when shooting with wide-angle lenses. (2) To achieve the resolutions required by the micron pitch of today's CCDs, the demands of optical design tend to result in the use of larger and heavier lenses.

Moreover, manufacturers of digital SLR camera systems have until now adopted the mounting systems used in their own respective 35mm film SLR cameras, making bodies and lenses produced by different manufacturers incompatible with one another.

In light of these circumstances, the new Four Thirds System standard was conceived to facilitate the design and development of digital SLR cameras and lenses that maximize the performance potential of digital imaging sensors, and provide users with product advantages such as compact size, handling ease, and enhanced functionality.

Benefits
The major benefit of Four Thirds System is that it allows the design of dedicated, high-performance digital camera lens systems that are more compact than 35mm film SLRcamera lens systems. The impact of the more compact lens size will be especially marked on telephoto lenses, making it possible to produce a Four Thirds System 300mm telephoto lens, for example, that offers performance equivalent to an approximately 600mm lens on a 35mm film SLR camera. In other words, it will be possible to offer the same angle of view in a lens that is only about one-half as long. The 4/3-type image sensor size will also allow the development of bright, high-performance zoom lenses that are more compact than those needed for use with image sensors the size of APS or 35mm film. By taking advantage of the more compact lens size, it will therefore be possible to develop lens systems that are much easier to handle than conventional 35mm film SLR camera lens systems. Furthermore, standardization of the lens mounting system will make it possible for consumers to photograph combining with bodies and lenses produced by different manufacturers, and enjoy a wider range of product selection.

In addition, by freeing its lens designers from the constraints of conventional 35mm-format interchangeable lens design, Olympus was able to develop a new 4x optical zoom lens that is specifically designed to match the size and performance characteristics of CAMEDIA E-10's CCD. In addition to offering 4x zoom, the lens has the exceptional light-gathering power of an F2-F2.4 aperture range. One ED (Extra-low Dispersion) and two aspherical lens elements are used to assure excellent edge-to-edge resolving power, and all lens elements are multicoated to limit internal reflection and assure crisp, clear imaging. Other advanced features include TruePic image processing, which assures that 4-megapixel image data is accurately represented at all output resolutions, and a new white-balance function for superior image quality in a wide range of shooting situations.
A shutter-release lag-time of only about 60 milliseconds was achieved by using a proprietary new auto exposure algorithm and a dual active/passive autofocus system for high-speed focusing. As a result, responsiveness and shooting ease are truly outstanding.
A variety of extension lenses, external flash unit "FL-40 electronic flash" and a remote cable and a wireless remote control are also available, making the CAMEDIA E-10 a digital SLR camera that is fully able to meet the needs of commercial and professional users.

Dual Autofocus System for Quick Focusing
Fast, accurate focusing is provided by an advanced dual autofocus system that combines single-beam, twin-sensor active AF technology with passive AF technology. After initial measurement is made with the single-beam, twin sensor system, fine tuning is carried out with the passive system. In extreme low-light conditions, the twin-sensor active system alone can be used, thus greatly extending the range of situations in which digital photographs can be taken.

Individual buttons are provided for all frequently used shooting modes, and are positioned for easy access when the camera is held in the normal shooting grip.
Advanced Flash Control System
A powerful GN13 (ISO 80) pop-up flash is built-in. Featuring advanced 'scene detection' technology, it automatically adjusts flash illumination to suit the subject's position, assuring beautiful auto flash exposures. +/- 2-step flash power compensation can also be used to achieve an ideal balance between natural light and flash illumination. In addition to forced (fill-in), slow-synchro and red-eye reduction modes, the flash also offers rear-curtain synchronization. An optional FL-40 external flash unit can also be connected via hot shoe or cable for full-auto, dual-flash shooting, and an external PC synchro socket allows other external flash units to be connected for multi-flash shooting.
Wide Selection of Exposure Modes
Four exposure modes are offered: Program AE, Aperture-Priority AE, Shutter-Speed- Priority AE, and Manual. Aperture and shutter speed can be quickly set via an electronic dial, and an AE Lock button is positioned so that it can easily be pressed with the right thumb. The wide range of exposure settings allows photographers to take full advantage of the exceptionally bright lens, and to easily capture long bulb exposures at night.
Versatile Exposure Control
+/- 3EV exposure compensation can be set in 1/3EV-step increments. With Auto bracketing function, the camera can shoot sequent shots of 3 frames in 1/3, 2/3 and 1EV steps.
Three White Balance Modes
In addition to Auto White Balance, one-touch White Balance can be stored in memory to assure correct color balance when shooting under various types of light source. Photographers can also achieve the precise color balance they want by choosing from seven manual White Balance settings (3000K, 3700K, 4000K, 4500K, 5500K, 6500K and 7500K).
Three Image Sharpness Settings
Hard, Normal and Soft image sharpness settings allow photographers to choose the level of image sharpness that best suits their purpose (i.e., printing, image manipulation, etc.).
Three Contrast Settings
High, Normal and Low contrast settings can be selected according to the photographer's preference.
Manual Focus
A focusing ring is provided to allow easy manual focusing when shooting subjects that are difficult for the autofocus system to handle.
Macro Mode
Macro photos can be taken from as close as 20cm at any zoom setting. At maximum magnification, an area of 76mm x 57mm fills the frame.
SmartMedia and CompactFlash Memory Card Support
Slots are provided for both 3V (3.3V) SmartMedia and CompactFlash memory cards of up to 128MB. Both types can be used simultaneously to extend memory capacity for worry-free, high-resolution shooting. The slots are linked, and a dedicated button is provided for slot switching. In addition, images can be copied from one card to the other at any time.
Raw Image Data File Storage
